SEVEN Thurrock Harriers were among the 540 finishers at the ultra fast Chelmsford 10k on Sunday.
Five of them returned personal bests. The determined Keith Willett chipped half a minute from his best to return 37m20s in 30th place. Adam Dowman was just 10 seconds and 1 place behind him. Adam’s training has been limited in recent weeks so he can be satisfied with this effort, not too far from his pb.
A delighted Toby Draper removed nearly a minute from his previous best with 38m09s. Brothers Tim and Keith Martin had a race long dual which ended in a frantic home straight battle where former footballer Keith just pipped his sibling, Keith’s time was 40m31s, Tim’s time 40m33s. Both times very big pb’s for them.Paul Mitchell ran a well judged race to miss his pb by a few seconds. His time was 43m15s. Orsett based Gary Rowlatt’s 43m45s was his best by some margin. A fitting reward for his recently increased training.
It is not often Father and Son finish 1st and 2nd in a race but Martin Mack and son Jamie did just that in Saturday’s Park Run on Orsett Heath. 12 year old Jamie led from start to finish in dreadful weather conditions to return 20m40s to beat his Dad by 40s. A further 20 seconds back Kirk Bundy had a great run to finish 3rd.
