RESIDENTS and community leaders are being invited to play a key role in shaping Tilbury’s future, with applications now open for an independent Chair of the Tilbury Pride in Place Board.

The successful applicant will oversee the development and delivery of an ambitious programme backed by £20 million of government funding, aimed at improving the town and supporting long-term community-driven change.

The Chair will lead the Pride in Place Board in developing a shared vision and plan that reflects the priorities of residents in Tilbury. If you are an experienced and passionate individual with strong local knowledge and the ability to bring people together, this could be the role for you.

The programme puts the voice of the community at the heart of its decision-making process, with local people, businesses, voluntary and community sector (VCS) organisations, schools and faith groups all encouraged to play an ongoing role, alongside the MP and ward councillors.

Support for applicants from across the community is welcomed, and candidates are encouraged to submit statements of support from local residents and stakeholders as part of their application.

Cllr George Monk, Cabinet Member for Deregulation, Efficiency and Civic Pride, said: “This is a unique opportunity for someone to help shape Tilbury’s future and ensure this significant investment delivers real, lasting benefits for the community. We are looking for a strong and collaborative leader who is passionate about Tilbury and committed to putting residents at the centre of decision-making.”

Jen Craft, MP for Thurrock, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who understands Tilbury to make a lasting difference for the community.

“With a local, community-minded Chair leading the Board, we can bring people together to ensure this Pride in Place funding is spent in a way that genuinely reflects the views of Tilbury residents.

“If you want to play a leading role in driving positive change, I’d encourage you to consider applying.”

The council will act as the accountable body for the Pride in Place funding and will work closely with the Chair and Board to support the project’s delivery.

Applications are now open, and full details about the role and how to apply can be found online: Chair of the Tilbury Pride in Place Board | Have my say | Thurrock Council
