Can’t cook, will cook at Hathaway Academy!

    ON Wednesday 25th November , Rotary Club of Thurrock Gateway with support from the Interact Club of Hathaway Academy hosted the Rotary Young Chef Competition.

    Rotary Young Chef is a well-established and successful competition supported by Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland and sponsored by Flippo Berio. The competition aims to encourage young people to learn and a cook a healthy meal , develop food skills whilst developing organisational and planning skills.

    The candidates from Hathaway Academy were Daniel Rooke, Mark Zanders and Adam Adewunmi and all three young men were focused, demonstrating a varied range of skills and abilities. First Judge , Rotary Club of Thurrock Gateways President Frank Claydon said ‘The quality of the food was astonishing’.

    Second judge Restaurant Owner of 10 Dining Sujit Patel offered them all a chance to cook a meal for their families in his restaurant and commented that ‘The standard of cooking and presentation was outstanding and choosing an overall winner was not an easy task’ .

    The overall winner was Daniel Rooke , who prepared a Minestrone Soup, Salmon Tray bake with seasonal vegetables followed by a Banana Whip. Daniel will now compete in the District Finals on the 5TH March at Chelmsford College. Good luck Daniel.

    Dawn Flowers – Hathaway Academy’s Food Technician commented that it was a pleasure to support the three students and stated that the menus were interesting and varied.
