Rugby: Thurrock overpower Chingford

Thurrock 31 v 18 Chingford

IF ever there was a game where the score does not reflect the game this is the one. It was a very strange day as for some unknown reason the ref was let us say not kind to Thurrock, how a team in the ascendancy can be given 3 yellow cards is astonishing compared to the visitors one whose misdemeanours went unpunished apart from a penalty against them.

The visitors come with a game plan and with the very strong wind in their favour led 6-0 thanks to two penalties until Thurrock started to dominate the game and it was captain Reece Durrance went over under the posts, Tom Worsfold added the conversion. The conditions proved to be a great leveller but Thurrock continued to grow in confidence and Thurrock extended their lead when a chip across from Hagen Mumba was well collected by Freddie Russo looking back to his best, to score near the posts, Worsfold missed the conversion for a half time lead of 12-6

The second half was going well for Thurrock apart from a little spell, following James Flavin’s try following a great run from prop Charlie Currie, he fed the second row to score under the posts, Worsfold added the extra’s

A penalty try, and a catch drive try brought the visitors back into the game, but tries from Joss Nunn and Fraser Kidd gave the home side a deserved bonus point victory, the former being converted by Worsfold
