    Ryman Div One North

    Thurrock 2 v 1 AFC Hornchurch

AN exciting and entertaining Ryman North derby at Ship Lane on Tuesday evening saw the hosts grab a last gasp winner to climb above their visitors into second place reports The Thurrock Enquirer.

And Mark Stimson’s side will feel the title-chasing momentum is with them as they are now just four points behind leaders Cray, with three matches in hand.

Joe Christou gave Thurrock the lead in the 29th minute, an advantage they held until the 79th minute when one time Thurrock player Leon McKenzie, who had just come on to replace another former Fleet marksman in David Knight, grabbed an equaliser.

McKenzie, who parted company with Fleet on acrimonious terms under manager Hakan Hayrettin, would have enjoyed the moment but it wasn’t to prove decisive as one of Fleet’s new heroes, captain Lewwis Spence grabbed a 90th minute winner.

Though it was far from his cleanest strike, with the skipper admitting it was a ‘shank’ it still sparked victory celebrations for the home side in front of a crowd of 206.
