SOUTH Essex College’s events team have won an industry gold award for their Thurrock Campus launch party.
The team was awarded the first place prize in the Events Management category at the College Marketing Network’s FE First Awards, the sector’s answer to the Oscars.
The winning ‘it’s official’ Thurrock Campus launch event included a full evening of entertainment with Scouting for Girls and other College bands performing, cookery students serving up a tasty BBQ and a laser light show to officially open the new Grays town centre site.
Hundreds of people attended the free event which brought together the new College, their students and the local community.
The award ceremony took place at the Hilton Hotel in Leicester. The team attended the bash and were treated to lots of praise for their entry.
Rachel Smith, Chief Executive, College Marketing Network, said: “The event was highly ambitious and the team really thought outside the box, with a simply outstanding outcome. The award submission left us feeling very inspired!”
The team were also congratulated on their research, planning and promotion of the event plus how they overcame logistical challenges during the process.
Jade Withrington, the College’s Events Coordinator, said: “We’re over the moon to receive this award. The launch of the Thurrock Campus was an extremely challenging but enjoyable event to put together and we’re really pleased to have been recognised for its great success.”
On a daily basis, the events team are responsible for College open events, school liaison activities, taster days and student recruitment.
This is the second year in a row the marketing team at the College have been successful at the FE First Awards. Last year they won the gold prize for their recruitment campaign.
