North Waltham 39 v 5 Thurrock
THURROCK made the long journey to Norfolk with a side affected by injuries to 8 first choice players so knew they would find it difficult. Thurrock had to endure a gale force wind in their faces and it was impossible to kick out of hand against the elements, so despite lots of ball carrying, one error found themselves pinned in their own 22.
The Thurrock defence held up well and kept the home side at bay, but pressure finally told, as Thurrock conceded a penalty and 3 tries two of which were converted to lead at the break 22-0 probably one conceded score away being a perfect half, as all those watching thought that 22 points was not enough.
But it was not in the script that the home side changed their game plan to perfection, and according to the club sources their best performance for more than two years. They defied the strong wind and looked dangerous when running from deep as Thurrock could not make use of the elements, with some poor kicking, Thurrock conceded 3 more tries only one was converted but did end with a consolation score from Blaine Kidd who scored wide out.
This week THURROCK entertain CS RUGBY 1823 kick off at Oakfield is 3.00pm
