Cruise Line boss speaks to Essex Chamber of Commerce

LAST week (Monday 7th December), Essex Chambers of Commerce invited guest speaker Rachael Jackson of Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines to the popular ‘Thoroughly Thurrock’ twilight networking event. Talking to more than 60 businesses about the impact for local businesses of increasing departures from Tilbury in 2016, as well as the history of this award-winning, family-run cruise line.

Rachael spoke about the increasing popularity of cruise holidays amongst UK passengers and how the demand for no-fly cruises departing from UK ports has been felt by Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines. As their clients enjoy the convenience of a departure closer to home, without the hassle of flying, the close proximity of Tilbury to London and the good road links to South East England has seen a rise in demand from Fred. Olsen clients to start and end their cruises in Tilbury. As a result the cruise line plans to increase the number of ex-Tilbury sailings by 50% in 2016, to a total of six – a considerable benefit to the wider business community, as well as Fred. Olsen’s passengers.

Rachael said about the event, “We would like to congratulate Essex Chambers on an excellent and very festive ‘Thoroughly Thurrock’ event, and Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines was delighted to take part for the very first time.

“As a regional cruise line, the 50% increase in departures from Tilbury on board ‘Black Watch’ in 2016 see Fred. Olsen growing its connections within the Essex area. An event such as ‘Thoroughly Thurrock’ presents a valuable opportunity to work with the local business community to discuss potential future partnerships and share industry experience.

Thoroughly Thurrock resumes again in 2016, in association with Heart Radio and Orsett Hall, on 1st February. Visit for further information.
