THERE are arguments for and against, the Freedom of Information Act (FOI). We are not going to go into them here.
But we thought this would be a good time to revisit one of our favourite FOI’s that relates to Thurrock.
In 2009, a William Thackery asked the following question
"Please provide details of any Scientology related correspondence in
respect of, and any Scientology related events attended by, Ian Harrison,
Ex-Mayor of Thurrock, and Daphne Hart, Ex-Mayoress".
The information below has been supplied in response to your request for
the above mentioned information. We hope the information supplied
satisfies your original request.
The answer was:
The Mayor receives an invitation every year to the Annual Gala Charity
Concert at Saint Hill Manor, East Grinstead. This, I believe, is the
Hubbard Foundation headquarters. In the past five years the attendance has
been as follows:
26.10.03 – Cllr Gerard Rice and Guest attended concert.
31.10.04 – Cllr Ian Harrison & Guest attended concert.
23.10.05 – Cllr Colin Churchman & Guest accepted the invitation but were
unable to go at the last minute. An employee attended in his place and
went with a guest to the concert.
22.10.06 – Cllr Joy Redsell declined the invitation but subsequently went
on a private visit to Saint Hill Manor on 07.02.07. She received lunch and
a small paperweight as a memento of the visit.
28.10.07 – Cllr Diane Revell & Cllr Mike Revell attended concert.
There are no other records of any gifts, hospitality or donations by
Scientology Organisations.
