KIND-hearted Thurrock residents have shown the true spirit of Christmas by helping out a mother and her three-year-old son who have found themselves homeless at Christmas.
The couple were discovered to be sleeping rough in Tilbury by Jenny Codling, the wife of Tilbury priest, Father Tim Codling.
With only the clothes they were wearing, an appeal went out to help the couple.
Resident, Allison Nicholll put out an appeal on Facebook asking for any help.
Tilbury councillor, Lynn Worrall told YT that she saw Allison’s message and also took up the call which asked residents if they could provide any clothing, household items etc.
Cllr Worrall said: "They had been given accommodation but they have nothing. The place is bare apart from a couple of beds that have been donated.
"The Church will provide them with Christmas dinner on Friday.
"Drop off point for any donations is to Father Tim’s wife Jenny at the Vicarage.
Address for donations to be dropped is: St Johns Vicarage, Dock Rd, Tilbury RM18 7PP Phone:01375 842417. If at all possible can any donations be dropped off before midday on Thursday"
Donations came into the vicarage on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
Jenny Codling was overwhelmed with the response and sent out a message of thanks to those who donated.
Jenny said: "The response from the people of the parish and beyond had been overwhelming and humbling.
"We offer such assistance regularly and we have our regular supporters but with the proximity of Christmas and the really sad circumstances many others have come forward with acts of generosity and thoughtfulness.
"The spirit of the true Christmas is living and thriving here".
