TWO members of staff from the sterile services department at Orsett Hospital are shaving their heads to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Tracy Baker and Karen Ince have worked together for four years, and are good friends as well as colleagues. The two have decided to ‘brave the shave’ as Tracy’s brother has recently been diagnosed with cancer.
Tracy explains: “My brother Paul Stening, who is 36, went on holiday with his wife and three year old son last year.
"As soon as he got there he collapsed and was admitted to a Spanish hospital, where he was diagnosed with a brain tumour. He spent a long time abroad before we could get him home, and he is now having treatment here. Raising money for Macmillan by braving the shave is my way of saying thank you for the support that the Macmillan nurses have given my brother and our family.”
Karen adds: “To hear the words ‘you have cancer’ must be devastating. I want to raise money to help support people coping with this disease. God gives his strongest soldiers his toughest battles."
The shave will be taking place on Monday 11 January, in the main outpatient reception at Orsett Hospital, at 12.30pm.
