West Tilbury WI: January Report

West Tilbury WI

January Report

President Joanne Phillips gave everyone a glass of sherry to toast in the New Year. Our speaker for the month was author Sandy Laurence who has written a book of West Tilbury and especially Low St and it’s railway station.

The once thriving village is no more and time has erased the rectory and local shops and many cottages.

The photos she brought were of great interest to several members who remembered the area from their younger days. Proceeds from the sale of her book are to be donated to the Air Ambulance.

A vote was taken on the Resolutions for this year, to be presented to her Majesty’s Government final decision at the WI’s AGM Meeting. Several outings were discussed, also a set up of a Face-book page. A thank you letter from St Luke’s Hospice was read out for the £22 donation collected at our Christmas meeting.

Raffle prizes were won by June Adams, Joy Ridgewell, Lorna Jones and Joanne Phillips.

Next Meeting : February 2nd 2016
