Rugby: Not so Happy New Year for Stanford’s 1st

East London 1sts (56) – Stanford 1sts (0)

First game back after the Christmas break and the first team travelled down the A13 to top of the league East London. Stanford didn’t get any deserved points from this game but battled for the whole 80 minutes.

The conditions were heavy under foot and the forwards had to work continuously throughout the game. Stanford’s defence was for the best part strong but the relentless pressure from the home side tolled.

When London had the space they looked good but when put under pressure Stanford made them spill ball and drove them back. Sadly the Stanford pressure was only sporadic and they never really got enough ball to play their own style of rugby. Stanford had some moments of good play between forwards and backs but just couldn’t make the attacks into points.

Stanford’s player of the match was Ryan Edgeway was his constant hard work.

Stanford u11s impressive win away at Harlow 145 -15

In the first game Harlow did not really get started which meant Stanford took an early advantage in the form of 12 unanswered tries. Tyler got a hat trick, Flynn and Daniel a brace each, Nathan and Lewis both barged over, Taylor and Sam on each wing scored and Leah ‘Lightbulb’ got her first for the club.

The second game was closer as Harlow got the first try but tries from Flynn and Daniel got things back on track. After half time the home team once again found a gap to exploit. The forwards regrouped, Nathan scored and Daniel doubled his tally with another pair of tries. They snuck one more try in but Tyler had the last say with a dart down the blind to score his 4th.

The final game was all one way traffic with Amelia scoring 4, Tyler 4, Daniel got one more and Taylor completed his hat trick pouncing onto the end of a chop over the top.

Huge well done to Joshua ‘pancake’ who tried out some new positions and still tackled like a beast. Jack ‘Grizzly’ rucked and mauled like a demon. And new boy Joshua had a few darting runs and set up a try.

Player of the day was Aaron ‘A-dog’ for a super human amount of tackles and constant support play.

Overall 145-15
