South Essex College student works on new James Bond movie

A FORMER South Essex College higher education student worked on the new James Bond blockbuster, Spectre.

Matt Thomas was part of the visual effects team at Framestore who put together the opening title sequence set to the film’s soundtrack by Sam Smith.

Matt graduated from the College’s University Centre Southend in 2015 with a first class BA (Hons) degree in Television Production and Screen Media.

He secured work placements with Framestore throughout his last year at university, working as a runner for the company at weekends. When he graduated, he took on a full-time role as a 2D Assistant.

Matt, 22, from Chelmsford said: “It was odd and exciting to work on the new James Bond instalment. From hearing the Sam Smith song well before everyone else did to seeing my work on the big screen, it was very surreal!”

Ollie Turner, HE course leader, added: “We’re very proud of Matt. Our students go on to do amazing things.”

Matt continues to work on many projects for Framestore including Sky’s Christmas commercial campaign, EA Games Need for Speed 2015 advert and Sainsbury’s recent Mog’s Christmas Calamity series.
