Athletics: Young Harriers impress at Essex Schools X-Country Champs

THE Essex Schools Championships threw up some fine individual performances. The most eye-catching one was that of Joe Logan who made the County Team after just 3 months in the sport. This was a brave and inspired run from the 16 year old.

Hayley Instance also earned a County call up in the junior girls group with a brilliant 5th place.

The only complete team was the intermediate boys team led by Harry Parker, not in the best of health at the moment, but finishing 19th. The team finished 5th in a tight contest. Ben Prior had his best run of the winter to finish 20th. Other finishers were Jamie Mack 33rd, Henri Willett 44h, Mason Hambleton 45th, Finnlay Lowe 48th and Vince Forbes 56th.

Brooke Mensah should be delighted to earn a County call up with her excellent 11th place in the senior girls race.

Lucie Ball earned a County call up by finishing 16th in the inter-girls race. Carrie Whymark acquitted herself well by finishing 35th.

Oliver Mann will hope to get a County vest following his 19th place.

Taylor Newell should also make the County team in the inter-boys race. On Saturday he finished 15th. Also in this age group Sarab Dhillon was 35th, Reece Scott 43rd.

On the County reserve list Keira Scott was 16th in the junior girls race. Amy Raven was 56th.
