Travel and parking arrangements for Thames Crossing meeting at Tilbury Cruise Terminal

THURROCK Council has worked with several local companies to try and ensure as many people as possible are able to attend Thursday’s Lower Thames Crossing meeting at the Tilbury Cruise Terminal.

Highways England – which is running the nationwide consultation – will be at the meeting along with the borough’s two MPs, Jackie Doyle-Price and Stephen Metcalfe.

Due to the expected interest in the meeting – where doors open at 6.30pm for a prompt 7pm start – extra car parking has been arranged in and around Tilbury with the Ensign bus company putting on a park-and-ride service where necessary.

Leader of Thurrock Council, Cllr John Kent, said on Tuesday (23 February): “I wanted to say thank you to everyone who has offered to help.

“Once again it shows that the whole borough is concerned about these proposals – whether they are in favour or not – and wants local people to have as much information as possible.

“I wish to thank Asda, Travis Perkins, Maritime and the Fortress Distribution Park, ATL Haulage, and Basepoint at the Tilbury Riverside Business Park for making their car parks available to meeting visitors free of charge.

“In addition I would also want to thank to Port of Tilbury, Perry Glading, and Ensign – particularly its chairman Peter Newman – for their support as well.”

The regular Ensign number 99 bus service will run until 7pm (last services to the terminal leaves Asda Tilbury at 6.29pm and 6.55pm), but Ensign will also be running additional buses from Asda direct to the Cruise Terminal regularly from 6.20pm to 6.45pm.

Following the meeting’s close, at 9pm, Ensign will also be running buses directly back to Asda as necessary in addition to the two originally planned buses taking passengers to Tilbury Civic Square and Tilbury rail station.

Cllr Kent added: “Parking places may well still be very limited and we are asking people – where possible – to car share or take public transport.

“We also understand some buses and coaches may have been booked. People should ensure our communications team is aware of bus and coach parties so appropriate parking can be co-ordinated.
