Dr Bob Spink, UKIP’s Police and Crime Commissioner, PCC, candidate, claims the Conservatives are trying to rush through changes before the election on May 5th of a new Police Commissioner.
Spink said: “’I visited the Tilbury Station recently to see for myself how central and important it is to the community.
Following this visit, I met with the Chief Constable at a briefing meeting and asked him to hold back on major changes until after the PCC elections on May 5th, which is only two months away.
I told him there would be little tolerance from me if I become PCC and find he has already committed to new projects like the £50m new HQ in Chelmsford
‘The current Tory PCC said Essex Police are in a ‘perilous state’ and is now resigning. Whoever takes over as the new PCC should have a free hand to review the spending priorities and reverse PCSO cuts, front line policing cuts and station closures.”
‘The Conservative’s hasty action to close the Tilbury Station appears politically mischievous.’
