Tip Toe Stage School make great strides on Broadway!

ONE of the borough’s most popular and endearing groups, the TipToe Stage School, has much to celebrate at the moment having just returned triumphant from New York.

Following their performances in the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympics, they were approached some-time ago about the possibility of appearing on Broadway by the resident producers of the Paramount Theatre. And last week the group made their Broadway debut.

The signs were positive when the school received a good luck mention on the Graham Norton show on the Saturday before they travelled and while at 35,000 feet the Captain of the Aircraft read out a personal message from Virgin Atlantic wishing all the pupils good luck!

20 dancers, along with teachers, families and friends made the journey across the Atlantic and proudly represented TipToe and the Borough in a song and dance extravaganza.

Having seen industry greats such as Buice Springsteen and Jessie J appear at the Paramount recently, the team were undoubtedly nervous and their performances were very well received. The show’s producer, in her weekly industry blog, said: “It’s been a real buzz to have dancers appear from the UK and you guys did not disappoint – it was fantastic!”

Speaking about the performance, the schools’ Principal, Julie Barker, said: “I still can’t believe that it has actually happened and I would like to recognise all of the students, teachers and the supporters who made the event so memorable.

“Everything went so smoothly and it just highlighted how great the teaching team at TipToe are – the pupils were a credit to them and their parents.”

From opening in early 1986 with just three pupils, the school is now in its 30th year with over 150 pupils over branches in the Harris Academy, Chafford Hundred, as well as new ventures in Romford, Upminster and Beckton.

Plans for the anniversary are well underway with the school’s main show taking place at the Towngate Theatre in Basildon in October 2016. Aside from this there are further performances at Her Majesty’s Theatre, The Royal Albert Hall and other local shows and competitions to take into account.
