EAST Thurrock United boss John Coventry has highlighted the importance of his side’s mental strength ahead of their top of the table clash at home to third place Tonbridge Angles tomorrow.
The league leaders come into the game on the back of an impressive 3-0 win away to league strugglers Farnborough earlier this week taking them back to the summit of the Ryman Premier League.
Rocks have been in superb form since the turn of the year, which has seen them pick up only one defeat in 14 matches. They are now on a run of five unbeaten and boss Covo feels his side’s consistency has been the most impressive factor in this run.
“I’ve been most pleased by the consistency and the level we have been able to reach in some games
“Tonbridge are a large physical side, and we know they’ll be a threat in the air. It’s up to us to see if we can manage to stop them doing what they do best and impose ourselves on the game.
“I’ve always said that if we can get the mental side of our game right we’ll be ok. That is our main challenge. I have every confidence in the teams ability.”
East Thurrock striker Sam Higgins has been in inspiring form this season, bagging an impressive 37 league goals in only 33 appearances.
“I have been impressed by the performances from Sam for a number of years now, he’s a player you know will always score goals and that is vital at any level of football” said Coventry.
Tomorrow’s opponents, Tonbridge Angles, currently sit six points of the pace set by East Thurrock, albeit with two games in hand. The come into the game following a vital 1-0 win over second place Hampton and Richmond Borough, thanks to a second half penalty from Luke Blewden.
The two sides last met back in January, where it was East Thurrock who picked up all three points in an important 2-1 away win with Sam Higgins notching a brace.
