Football: Aveley produce great comeback

Ryman Div One North

Aveley 3 v 2 Bury Town

AVELEY moved into thirteenth place after edging out the team now immediately above them in the table, Bury Town, by the odd goal in five at Mill Field on Monday night.

Considering there was very little riding on the game apart from pride and final placings, it was an exciting encounter that saw the Millers come back from two-down to win.

Bury took a 10th minute lead when a neat turn by Connor Hall from a corner played in Nick Ingram, who fired home past James Marrable.

Nine minutes later it was 2-0 when a long ball forward found Josh Mayhew in oceans of space and he slotted home under Marrable.

Crucially though the hosts responded 5 minutes before half-time when an Abs Seymour free-kick deflected off the wall and into the corner of Neil O`Sullivan`s net.

And 3 minutes into the second half, the Millers were back on level terms when a free-kick found Perry Dunn at the far post and he fired home.

Aveley`s Brian Okwera had a header cleared off the line after 72 minutes and seconds later Liam Nash crashed a header back off the bar, but just 3 minutes later they went in front in rather fortuitous circumstances.

Billy Coyne crossed into the box, but instead of catching the ball, O`Sullivan palmed it into his own goal.

Tempers flared near the end when there was a free-for-all, but the referee sensibly just issued a couple of yellow cards.

Bury have now gone seven games without a win.
