South Ockendon man fined over Jobseekers fraud

A SOUTH OCKENDON man has been fined for failing to notify the authorities over a change in his circumstance at work.

Robert James Kettlety (53) of Eden Green, South Ockendon pled guilty to the following.

1. Between 13/10/2011 and 05/09/2012 at South Ockendon, dishonestly failed to promptly notify the Department for Work and Pensions in the prescribed manner of a change of circumstances which you knew would affect your entitlement to Jobseekers Allowance, namely that you held capital in excess of the permitted limits.

2. On 30/04/2012 at South Ockendon with a view to obtaining for yourself a benefit, advantage or other payment, namely Jobseekers Allowance, under relevant social security legislation dishonestly made a statement or representation to the Department for Work and Pensions which was false, namely that the information given on a JSA rapid reclaim form was correct and complete, whereas it was not as you failed to declare that you held capital in excess of the permitted limits.

3. Between 17/10/2011 and 29/08/2012 at South Ockendon, dishonestly failed to promptly notify a local authority, namely Thurrock Council in the prescribed manner of a change of circumstances which you knew would affect your entitlement to Council Tax Benefit, namely that you held capital in excess of the permitted limits.

4. Between 17/10/2011 and 19/08/2012 at South Ockendon, dishonestly failed to promptly notify a local authority, namely Thurrock Council in the prescribed manner of a change of circumstances which you knew would affect your entitlement to Housing Benefit, namely that you held capital in excess of the permitted limits.

Kettlety was fined £145 and placed under an electronic curfew.
