The Battle of Belhus Woods
OVER this Easter weekend the sounds of battle will disturb the normally tranquil areas of Belhus Woods Country Park near Aveley. Men and women of the Southern Skirmish Association (SoSkAn) will be recreating the American Civil War for us, putting on an authentic camp, educational displays, and even a battle with real cannon and musket fire.
The American Civil War was one of the most devastating wars of the 19th Century and pitted the United States against the rebellious Confederacy in a fight that eventually bought about an end to slavery in America.
The men of SoSkAn help to portray the type of fighting that happened in this devastating war, and educate the public about British involvement in this war that shook the American people and shaped the United States into the nation we know today.
The event, running from the 26th till 28th March will be FREE entry and will have battles and displays running on the Sunday and Monday, and refreshments will be available from the site shop.
Come take a walk in the park, and take a trip through time…
