East Thurrock United 0 v 0 Staines Town
THE ROCKS failed to break down a durable Staines Town in a 0-0 draw at Rookery Hill.
Staines were full of running and not afraid to shoot on sight. Tommy Wright had one such effort in the 6th minute after a good run.
The Rocks should have opened the scoring in the 8th minute when Tommy Wraight was clean through but keeper Turner bundled the ball away.
Staines looked like they were being given too much time on the ball. In the 12th minute Tre Mitford was given time to chest and shoot in the box. Luckily it was off target.
East Thurrock found it very hard to grind Staines down. In the 28th minute, Sam Higgins had three attempts from close range that were repelled by Jack Turner.
The Rock’s defence were still busy and once again Joe Ellull made a series of fine last ditch tackles.
In the 36th minute, James Walker blasted over from close range. A minute later, Samy Knott had another chance but that was also wide of the target.
The second half started with Rocks looking for a plan B. Striker Sam Higgins felt he wasn’t getting the decisions he deserved.
Another good move by Walker and Higgins saw the striker free but once again, he could not find the target.
At the other end, the Rocks keeper did well to stand up and save a shot from Staines.
The Rocks chances continued to come but they were half at best. Staines were durable to the end and never stopped chasing.
East Thurrock tried everything they could but it looks like the title chances are ebbing away.
