DETECTIVES investigating a robbery at a bookmakers in Grays have released CCTV images of a man they would like to identify as part of their enquiries.

It happened shortly before 8.40pm on Wednesday, March 16 at Corals in Clarence Road. A man entered the store and threatened staff with a knife before jumping over the counter, snatching a three figure sum of cash from the till and running off.

The suspect is described as white, 5ft 10ins tall, of a muscular build and was wearing light grey tracksuit bottoms with "MCKENZIE” on the left leg and a red hooded top with "FRANKLIN AND MARSHALL” written on the front. He was also wearing a thin green parka style jacket.

Officers are linking the robbery to an attempted robbery which happened nearby just an hour before.

It occurred at the Tesco Express store in Drake Road. A man carrying a knife entered the shop and forced open the till area by kicking in the door. He tried to open the till but was unable to and left empty handed.

Investigating Officer Dc Andrew Marr of Grays CID said: "We are linking these two incidents and would really like to identify the man in the attached photographs.

"We appreciate they are not the clearest of images and do not show a clear view of the man’s face. However, someone may recognise him from his clothing or general appearance. I would urge anyone who has any information to come forward.”

Anybody that can help is asked to contact Dc Marr at Grays on Essex Police 101. People can also give information anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
