THURROCK Swimming Club hosted the annual County and Regional qualifying Gala at Blackshots Leisure Centre on Saturday 16th April and Sunday 17th April, with teams from all over Essex, London and further afield attending. This was a very successful Gala for all of the swimmers involved.
The busy weekend accommodated over 250 swimmers and saw 4 TSC swimmers achieve Regional qualifying times. The Achievements of Teni Ogunlesi (30.65 in 50m freestyle), Daniel Ajetummobi (40.52 in 50m breaststoke and 1:31:73 in 100m breaststroke), Robert Buckley (03:08.40 in 200m breaststroke) and Lillian Tagg (1:15.79 in 100m backstroke) meant that this year’s qualifiers for the Regional Gala are up to 25 – compared to 19 in 2015. Kieron Harris also achieved a fantastic 4 GB deaf swimming records in the 50m freestyle (28.98), 50m butterfly (32.03), 50m backstroke (34.66) and 50m butterfly (32.03).
The lively atmosphere combined with great team spirit lead to an enthusiastic, yet competitive swim by all of the team. The team spirits were high – helping to push one another to the best of their ability. The results of the gala certainly demonstrate the hard work the team have put in over the past few months.
