Young volunteers wanted in Thurrock

EVERY summer dozens of young people take advantage of Thurrock Council’s libraries volunteer opportunities, providing them with valuable work experience and a reference.

The successful annual Summer Reading Challenge engages thousands of children in reading over the long summer holidays.

The volunteers will be talking to children about the books they have been reading, and helping them choose new books, as well as helping with summer activities and supporting staff with the annual challenge.

In previous years volunteers have found the scheme also provides them with a chance to make new friends, make a positive contribution to the community at large, and develop confidence and social skills.

Any local young person, aged 13 to 16 can take part, and to find out more contact Rachel Gallehawk at rgallehawk@thurrock.gov.uk or telephone 01375 413970.

The role description and application form is available online at thurrock.gov.uk/volunteering
