Cricket: Orsett and Thurrock see off Woodford

Orsett & Thurrock continued their unbeaten start to the season with a comfortable 54-run win at home to Woodford Wells.

The home side batted first, but it was the visitors who made the better start as they made some early breakthroughs. But opener Umar Ayub steadied the ship with 50, while there were some useful contributions in the middle order from Kirk Laws (25), Will Gibbon (36) and Shahid Khan (20) to help the hosts post a reasonable target of 197.

Shahid Khan (4-20), George Pavitt (3-26) and Mo Rahim (2-29) did the damage to the Woodford Wells batting line-up, with resistance only coming from Joe Johnson (33), Michael Arblaster (28) and Gareth James (29) as the match was wrapped up in the 46th over with Orsett & Thurrock making it two wins from three.
