UKIP Thurrock Deputy Leader, Cllr Roy Jones stepped in at the last minute to help steward the Thurrock Cycle Marathon on Sunday morning after it was allegedly nearly cancelled, as the police were unable to offer their full support for the event due to their budget being cut.
Cllr Roy Jones said: "I was asked to steward the event on Wednesday as there was no one available to look after the welfare of the cyclists going round the course.
"The way the Conservative Party has butchered our police force is unacceptable. They have shut our police stations, stopped dealing with anti social behaviour and now can no longer support community projects raising thousands of pounds."
