Cricket: Orsett and Thurrock’s unbeaten run comes to an end

ORSETT and Thurrock’s unbeaten start to the season came to an end with a comprehensive defeat away at Southend-on-Sea & EMT.

The hosts batted first and posted a mammoth 255 from their 50 overs thanks mainly to the efforts of Tom Phillippe, who made 101 from just 116 balls before he was trapped lbw by Will Gibbon (3-45.)

The visitors got off to an awful start and that continued throughout the innings as they were dismissed for just 52. Matt Hills was the only batsman to reach double figures as he finished not out on 25. Ben Wathen (4-17), Joe Robbins (3-16) and Callum Druce (3-10) did the damage as Orsett & Thurrock fell to a heavy 203-run defeat.

Despite the loss, Orsett & Thurrock are second in the 1st XI Division One table, two points behind leaders Upminster.
