Cricket: Stanford overwhelm Harlow

Stanford-le-Hope 2nd XI 252-8 (45 overs)

Harlow Town 2nd XI 87 all out (31.1 overs)

STANFORD-le-Hope’s second string made it two wins on the bounce in this one sided affair at Stanford Rec on Saturday.

Having been asked to bat by Harlow Town on an odd-looking pitch, Stanford went about putting a decent score on the board. Despite the early loss of both openers, captain Andrew Robinson (75 no) and vice-captain Kevin Smith (58) led from the front to put on 113 for the third wicket.

Scoring conditions on a slow wicket were made even more difficult after the council had once again failed to cut the grass on the outfield. However some wayward Harlow Town bowling gifted Stanford 55 extras and together with some late hitting from Martyn Hathaway (20) and Daryl Woodford (22no) Stanford posted a daunting 252-8 in their 45 overs.

It was always going to be a tough ask for Harlow to chase and the pressure was firmly on them to take risks from the off. Some suicidal running between the wickets saw three of Harlow’s top five batsman run out and they collapsed to 87 all out with Daryl Woodford doing the damage with the ball with figures of 4-11 off 8.1 overs. Martyn Hathaway also registered figures of 2-20 off 6 overs to send Harlow to a 165 run defeat and see Stanford consolidate their second place position in the league.

Stanford entertain Walthamstow at home next week looking to carry on their good run.

Stanford 20 points

Harlow Town 3 points
