ESSEX Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were called to a metal crushing machine alight on Station Road in Tilbury.
On arrival, the machine, which measured 25m by 10m, was 50% alight. Three hose reel jets and one main jet were used to extinguish the fire by 19:56hrs.
Crew members are currently carrying out further safety checks at the incident scene.
