Athletics: Thurrock Harriers weekly report

English Schools regional combined championships at Peterborough

A number of Thurrock Harrier athletes represented Essex at the English Schools regional combined championship at Peterborough on Saturday 25th & Sunday 26th.

In the boys team was Theo Adesina who won the competition overall with a PB total points of 2978, which still ranks him as number one in the UK for this year and 36th in the UK on the all time list and 3rd in the East all time list. His other results were 11.90s in hurdles, 11.66m in shot, 6.29m in LJ, 1.71m in HJ and 2.16s in 800m. Also representing Essex was Daniel Ogutaga who came 7th overall with total points of 2019. His other results were, 13.9s in hurdles, 8.85m in shot, 5.52m in LJ, 1.47m in HJ and 2.35s in 800m.

Both Theo and Daniel be going to the national finals later on this year representing the East Anglian region.

Sola Taiwo was also in the Essex girls team as a guest, she came 7th overall out of 28 girls from the Anglian region. She achieved a total PB points of 2563, her other results were 12.20s in hurdles, 7.07m in shot, 4.57m in LJ, 1.46m PB in HJ and 2.42s in 800m.

All at Thurrock Harriers are very proud that they are representing Essex, all results from the hard work they put in, is paying off.

At a Youth Development League competition at Hendon (held the same weekend) U17b William Adeyeye achieved a PB in LJ with a massive jump of 6.80M and 13.81s in the 100m hurdles.

Thurrock Harriers youth team travelled to Sandy for the 4 round of the EYAL, 68 athletes did well on the day to score points for Thurrock which ranked them Third place overall. Thank You to all those parents/carers that travelled out to support and encourage the athletes.

This coming weekend the seniors tackle the 4th round of the SAL. They have won their first 3 matches and on Saturday at Lea Valley hope to continue this sequence. They have strong opposition from St Albans and need their strongest team to tackle this fixture. Good Luck Thurrock.
