UKIP Thurrock Group Leader, Cllr Graham Snell has called on Thurrock Conservative Councillors to clarify their long term position on the new Lower Thames Crossing as it is currently "at odds with the party they represent".
Cllr Graham Snell said: "We have heard many comments from a range of Thurrock Conservative Councillors setting out the position that they are personally opposed to the new Lower Thames Crossing. Whilst that is commendable and to be applauded it is, unfortunately, at odds with the party they represent.
"The Conservative Party, of which they are all members, supports the building of another Lower Thames Crossing which it is currently pushing through at a national level.
"Please can Cllr Gledhill and his fellow Thurrock Conservative Councillors confirm that, if their party goes ahead and builds a new Lower Thames Crossing in Thurrock, they will tear up their membership cards and sit as Independent Councillors?
"I believe local residents deserve to know if their local Conservative Councillor’s will put the interests of their career and their Party before the wishes of the local people they represent."
YT has contacted the leader of the Conservative group and is awaiting a reply.
