THREE students from Prospect College Engineering Department in Basildon have voluntarily installed a ramp for a local disabled resident in South Ockendon.

The Council’s Local Area Coordination Group arranged for a ramp to be fitted so a local South Ockendon disabled resident could enter his property with ease as previously his rear step was too high and made life difficult for him.

Ockendon resident, Chris Newton said: "They have done a remarkable job and I am incredibly grateful to them for installing this ramp so I can safety get into my own home."

Belhus Cllr, Chris Baker said: "I have met the three students who installed the ramp, it is great to see young people helping out communities and giving residents their independence back.

"I am incredibly grateful for their support and I know it will make the world of difference to Chris Newton."
