THURROCK Council’s licensing team were out on the 29 and 30 June inspecting over 90 Hackney carriages that operate throughout Thurrock.
The team have been testing the meters used in taxis, ensuring that they were giving an accurate price to customers per mile.
Of all the vehicles that were tested just four meters failed to give the correct reading. However, after being recalibrated and retested, the meters passed the test.
One taxi failed to turn up for the inspection, resulting in a suspension of the vehicles taxi license until a further inspection is passed.
Cllr Pauline Tolson, Portfolio Holder for Environment, said: “It is great to see such important work being carried out by the licensing team.
“This will ensure that all Thurrock taxi users get a fair price for every journey and these regular inspections aim to give residents trust and security in the service the borough’s taxis provide.”
