FOLLOWING the cabinet meeting on Wednesday (13 July), Thurrock Council will be launching a policy to support the Voluntary, Community and Faith Sector (VCFS) in the running of publicly owned buildings and spaces in Thurrock.

The Community Asset Transfer (CAT) Policy sets out the council’s approach to support local community groups in the management of assets, such as community centres, parks and open spaces.

The policy also aims to help the VCFS meet local needs, maximise social value and supports growth and resilience in the local community, volunteer and faith groups.

Speaking about the policy after cabinet, Cllr Garry Hague – Portfolio Holder for Business – said: “This is great news! This new policy will give these groups more ownership in their community and a bigger say in how certain areas of the borough are run and maintained.

“As well as benefitting the community, this policy will also promote efficiency in the running of community assets.”
