Fire tears through five cars in port of Tilbury

Update: 0930 hrs

ESSEX Firefighters were called to a fire involving four tractor units with trailers and one van at the port of Tilbury.

Crews used three main jets and one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire by 04:31hrs.

This incident has been recorded as accidental. The fire was caused by an overheated engine in the van.


YT has received a number of reports of a large explosion in the vicinity of the sport of Tilbury.

A number of residents contacted YT and told us that they had been awoken at around 2.30am on Tuesday morning to a large noise followed by the sound of sirens.
