AN ECFRS off-duty firefighter sprang into action when two cars collided along his road in Stanford-le-Hope.
Firefighter Terry Myers was settling down for the night when the road traffic collision took place in Southend Road at around 10.30pm last night.
He quickly made the incident scene safe and gave first aid to both drivers before crews from Orsett and Corringham and paramedics arrived.
Terry, of Orsett Fire Station’s Blue Watch, has served with Essex County Fire and Rescue Service for 12 years.
He said: “I heard a loud bang and instantly noticed that both vehicles had smoke coming out of them.
“I grabbed a fire extinguisher and asked a bystander to hold it as a precaution while I performed first aid and made the incident scene safe.
“I was then quickly assisted by my ECFRS colleagues and paramedics.”
Senior Divisional Officer Matt Furber said: “Terry’s willingness and ability to help is testament to the fantastic ethos within Essex County Fire and Rescue Service.
“Terry’s good work was swiftly supported by the arriving crews and paramedics.”
