STANFORD seconds couldn’t back up a good bowling performance sliding to a second consecutive defeat at home to Westcliff. The away side won the toss and opted to bat first.
Opener Finlay Mackay leading the way with 60 backed up by Rahul Ravi (23) and Danny Pheloung (36). However, the rest of Westcliff’s line-up fell cheaply and they only managed a below par 178. Andrew Love (3-33), Martin Hathaway (2-21) and Andrew Robinson (2-33) did most of the damage with Kevin Smith also picking up a wicket.
After tea Stanford made a mess of the run chase losing wickets at regular intervals. Jono Edwards (20) and Martin Hathaway (20) were the only two batsmen to get starts and Stanford were bowled out for 106 well short of their target. Westcliff’s attack was spearheaded by James Baker (3-18). Callum Pastfield, Kasan Ekanayake and Jay Aggarwal picked up a brace of wickets each. Ishan Madan also took a wicket.
Stanford travel to Mopsies Park this week hoping to keep a glimmer of promotion alive with a win against Basildon & Pitsea.
