Man assaulted after challenging motorbike thieves

ESSEX Police are appealing for information after a man was assaulted after challenging motorcycle thieves.

The 20-year-old man saw four suspects using cutting equipment to remove a black Yamaha YZF-R1 from a car park at Intu Lakeside at 2.55pm on Thursday August 4.

When he challenged them, one sprayed him with a noxious substance and kicked him from his own motorbike.

The suspects left the scene on mopeds or motorbikes.

The victim, from Grays, suffered a broken collarbone, bruising to his left leg and hip and reddening to his eyes.

Investigating officer Pc Michael Deats said: "This was a nasty and brazen attack that happened during the daytime in a location where there would have been people regularly passing through.

"Our enquiries are ongoing and we are appealing for anyone who saw what happened, or saw four people on mopeds or motorbikes acting suspiciously, to please contact us.

"We are also keen to hear from anyone who has been offered a black Yamaha YZF-R1 for sale since the incident.

"We would ask anyone who sees the suspects not to approach them but to call 999 immediately.”

Witnesses or anyone with information are asked to contact Pc Deats at Lakeside community policing team on 101.
