SCROOBIUS Pip, a Stanford Le Hope spoken word poet, hip hop recording artist and bestselling author attended a Thurrock Council library event last Friday (12 August) to end his national book tour for his latest bestseller “Distraction Pieces”.
Working in partnership with Octopus Publishing and Waterstones, guests heard pieces from the book and enjoyed a free-for-all questions and answers session.
Tickets for the event sold out within days of the event being launched.
Portfolio holder for communities, Cllr Deb Stewart spoke after the event: “Thurrock has so much to be proud of – it is especially nice though when Thurrock’s home grown talent come back to share their success with their hometown.
“Although I wasn’t able to attend, I heard people queued up afterwards to take selfies and get their copy of Distraction pieces signed by the author himself.
“I’m told that one of the council library officers celebrated the event by making a very special birthday cake for him!”
Scroobius Pip said: “Stanford was the perfect place to end the tour.
“Having lived here my whole life and used Stanford library since my childhood there was nowhere more appropriate to end a country wide run. And the welcome couldn’t have been warmer.”
