Girl who died in South Ockendon named

A TEENAGE girl who died having fallen ill in South Ockendon has been named locally as a Basildon school pupil.

Police were contacted by the ambulance service at 5.45am on Thursday September 1st following reports a young girl had been taken unwell at a house in Peartree close, South Ockendon.

Tragically, despite the best efforts of paramedics, the 15-year-old girl sadly later died at Basildon Hospital.

Two men have been both arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply drugs.

The girl has been named locally as Billericay School pupil Sherie-Lea James.

A fundraising page set up to help her family with funeral costs has raised more than £800.

Another teenager at the property, a 15-year-old girl, was also taken unwell and continues to be monitored at Basildon Hospital. Her condition is not thought to be life threatening.

Two men, a 19-year-old boy from South Ockendon and a 29-year-old man from London, have been arrested in connection with the investigation.

They remain in police custody.

An investigation is now underway and a full post mortem examination will be carried out. Thurrock Council is working closely with Essex Police and cooperating with their investigation.
