NETWORK Rail is holding a consultation on the possible closures of three level crossings in the borough.
They want to hear from residents regarding crossings near New Tank Hill Road in Purfleet, a crossing in Stanford le Hope and one in Fobbing – both adjacent to the A13.
As part of the consultation, and after Thurrock Council pressed Network Rail to engage in a ‘proper’ consultation, a public meeting will be held on Saturday 24 September at The Civic Hall, Blackshots between 2.30pm and 6pm.
Cllr Brian Little, Portfolio Holder for Transport and Highways, has welcomed Network Rail’s change of heart: “I’m pleased Network Rail have taken on board what we said and added this additional public meeting in Thurrock so that local people can have their voices heard.
“I was dismayed when I heard their initial plan to hold the consultation on Thurrock’s level crossings in the London Borough of Havering – far away from the people who will be affected by the decision.
“But now, following our intervention calling for extra meetings, they have made arrangements for a proper consultation and I encourage everyone to attend and share their views.”
