East Thurrock United vs Bishops Stortford Match Preview
By Sam Roberts
EAST Thurrock manager John Coventry see’s this weekend’s clash with Bishops Stortford as an opportunity to get back amongst the wins.
The Rocks entertain The Bishops at Rookery Hill as they make a return to league action after a 3-2 loss to Whitehawk saw them exit the FA Cup in the second round of qualifying last time out. However, they’re last league game saw them claim a very respectable 2-2 draw at promotion-chasing Chelmsford City, and could have came away with the three points after leading twice and conceding a late equaliser.
Speaking ahead of the game, John said “looking at their league position it’s really a match we can win but of course they’re never going to make it easy”. He then added how it’s been a “positive week’s training coming back and there are no fresh injury concerns with a few previously-injured players nearing full fitness”.
East Thurrock are in 13th position in the National League South since promotion last season and have only suffered one home defeat in the league so far in this campaign. Bishop’s Stortford on the other hand, currently sit in the relegation zone, one place above the bottom but they have picked up 100% of their points this term away from home.
As there has been a 10-day break from league action, John also gave time to reflect on his side’s start to life in a division above, stating, “I’m very pleased with the start of the season, especially considering some of the players we’ve had missing through injury, it’s been good”.
