THURROCK Council has been working alongside Essex Police to tackle Anti-social behaviour (ASB) in key hotspots across the borough in a new operation called Xylophone.

After a spike in incidents members of the public are being encouraged to assist the police in obtaining intelligence and evidence about ASB issues and report them to [email protected] using the “Operation Xylophone” in the subject field.

Cllr Pauline Tolson, Portfolio Holder for Environment, was pleased to see a specific targeting of issues which are causing disruption in the community.

Speaking on Tuesday 27 September, she said: “It is really useful to have something specific to direct these issues to – I know PC Adam Colbear is leading on all related investigations meaning the approach is going to consistent.

“We really need people who have witnessed something or been victim of a crime to come forward and tell the police so we can tackle what we know is probably a wider issue that just a one off.”

ASB covers a wide range of unacceptable behaviour or activity which causes harm to a person, community or environment and is tackled jointly by the Local Authority and the Police.

Some examples of ASB could include: nuisance, rowdy or inconsiderate neighbours, vandalism, graffiti, street drinking, littering, dumping of rubbish and abandonment of cars, fireworks misuse and inconsiderate or inappropriate use of vehicles.
