RESIDENTS from Dartford and Thurrock are being urged to renew their membership of the scheme that saves at least £2.30 per crossing.Between September and December around 20,000 residents need to renew their Dart Charge Local Resident Scheme accounts in order to continue to receive discounts. Letters or emails are being sent to all account holders explaining what they need to do.Renewing is easy and can be done online, via email, post or by phone. Dart Charge has put extra support in place to make this renewal process as quick and easy as possible. Customers can check their renewal date online or by calling Dart Charge.Highways England’s Head of Dart Charge Service Sarah Green said:”It’s great that more local Dartford and Thurrock residents than ever before are taking advantage of the discounts available to use the Dartford Crossing. Over the next few months almost 20,000 residents need to renew their accounts and they will be sent advice well in advance explaining how to do this. I strongly encourage people to follow these instructions and renew their accounts as soon as possible to ensure they continue to benefit from the discounts. Dart Charge has put extra support in place to make this renewal process as simple and quick as possible for everyone. Under the local residents discount scheme, people living in Dartford and Thurrock can pay £20 a year for unlimited crossings on the Dartford Crossing, or alternatively pay £10 a year for 50 crossings, with additional crossings charge at 20p each.Around 47,200 people have local resident accounts, 18,000 more than prior to the introduction of Dart Charge.Renewing is easy, and can be done online at www.gov.uk/dart-charge or by phone on 0300 300 0120.Customers will be sent instructions how to renew their accounts well in advance and as part of this process will need to provide evidence they still live in the Dartford and Thurrock local authority areas and are therefore entitled to the discount.Two proofs of residence are required from a list of approved documents, which will be provided in the renewal notification, along with a copy of the V5C registration certificate for the vehicle. Copies can be emailed or posted to the Dart Charge office.The Local Residents Discount Scheme is only available to people living in Dartford and Thurrock but other drivers can save up to a third on every crossing by having a Dart Charge pre-pay account.
