St Luke’s Hospice launch new bereavement group

ST Luke’s Hospice has been supporting people in the local community for many years that have experienced bereavement through their Dove Community Counselling Service, offering emotional support, through one to one counselling, support groups and various therapeutic groups. As well as extensive bereavement support the Hospice is also committed to the provision of bereavement social groups, somewhere people can go, on a monthly basis, for a friendly chat and refreshments, together with the opportunity to take part in organised social events. The Hospice has already supported the set- up of successful clubs in Billericay, Basildon, Grays and Wickford. The Grays group (Brighter Horizons) has proved to be so successful that the Hospice, with support from T.Cribbs ‘Looking Forward” Looking Forward’ Grays launch took place on Thursday 13th October 10am-12noon at Stifford Clays Social Club, Crammavill Street, Grays RM16 2AP.Regular meetings twice a month will then be held on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at the same time.Sue Cappaert, a Counsellor at St. Luke’s Hospice explained ‘ Following the death of someone close to you, some people may lose confidence leading to social isolation. Being part of this type of social group will encourage bereaved people to come together, socialise and share experiences in a relaxed environment, building confidence and supporting each other, to re-integrate socially within the community Anyone who has experienced bereavement is very welcome to come along to the launch on 13th October and to join Looking Forward’. Encouraged by the success of our already established social groups, we recognise it is something that people in Grays could welcome being part of. Our aim is to help and support people who have been bereaved to rebuild their social life and help them have some fun again with others who are in a similar position as themselves. Feedback from our other group members says that it really has helped them turn their life around”.Frank Corless, chair of the new Looking Forward’ group, together with other committee members, is also a member of other Hospice bereavement groups and are enthusiastic about starting this new group. Frank said ‘I am really pleased with how today went and the successful launch of Looking Forward. We had over 50 people attend so there was lots of lively discussion! I am grateful to St. Lukes Hospice Dove Service, Cribbs we look forward to new people joining us at our future meetings and taking part in our social activities, outings and events”If you would like further information about attending Looking Forward, please contact: St. Luke’s Hospice Dove Counselling Service on 01277 655039
