Rugby: T-Birds send Henley down the river

Thurrock T-Birds 37 v 1 7 HenleySo the forwards decide who wins the game and the Backs decide by how many. This season, it’s not just the backs in general but Sally Tuson who decides by how many. With her 4th hat-trick in 5 games, she just keeps racking up the points with a total of 4 trys this week. With power, footwork and pace to burn, she really looks the real deal and she wants’ her England shirt back.Starting the game with an unfamiliar line up due to a long injury list and then 2 players trapped in traffic by the closing of the M25, the first half was fairly well balanced, with the T-Birds just shading it.With the scrum under pressure and organisational difficulties in defence, Ts looked fragile for the first time this season allowing Henley 2 first half scores, but with the forwards dogging it out at the breakdown and turning over the ball on a regular basis, clean ball in Tuson’s hands was pure gold as she ran in a first half hat trick for Ts to lead 12-15 at half time. With the cavalry arriving in the shape of Hepper and Baker at half time, having spent 6 hours on the road for 40 minutes rugby, T’s put things right on the pitch and took control. The scrum started to go forward and clean ball became easier to obtain.Tuson claimed her 4th and the forwards then turned the screw, with Duffy, Baker and Prosser getting on the score sheet.Well into overtime with the bench used up and down a player on a yellow card, an injury left Ts down to 13 and Henley took advantage to claim one back.Final score 17-37.Team, Lawther, Prosser (T), Tuson (4T), Harvey, Ross, Cook.G (C), Radford, Cook.R, Nichols, Duffy (T), Franklin, Walsh, Pickton,P, Edwards, Jordan.S. Reserves, Mountjoy, Hepper, Baker (T), Picton.L .The next Home game for the T-Birds is against Hove on the 23rd October. As always, Thurrock Ladies, the T-Birds welcome new players of any standard to their 2 teams. No matter how big or small, there is a place for you in a Rugby Team.
