In the pink for charity at Thurrock Adult Community College

STAFF, learners and volunteers at Thurrock Adult Community College have raised a record amount for various charities over the last month.Last week, in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Di Laver, Curriculum Manager, co-ordinated a #wearitpink event, raising an amazing £276 for Breast Cancer Now.In September, Sue Adams-Cundick, Senior Lecturer in Family Learning, organised her annual Macmillan Coffee Morning raising £277, with visitors reporting it was the widest selection of cakes seen anywhere, at any coffee morning (with an array of gluten, lactose-free and nut free home-bakes!)Julia Wright, Curriculum Manager, also held a quiz night recently for CLIC Sargeant, the charity that provided her with a home near the hospital while her son was receiving intensive chemotherapy treatment for Burkett’s lymphoma, raising a staggering £3,000.Jaki Bradley, Principal, is new to the adult college and loved seeing so many people join – she thanked her staff for co-ordinating these events and everyone who got involved, stating that it shows how caring and inclusive our college is.The college is now making plans for their next charity event for Children in Need and the traditional December event when college staff and visitors merrily do their bit in a Christmas knit for Text Santa.
