Thurrock residents find Make a Will Fortnight is big success

WHERE there’s a will there’s a way and that proved a very true statement for fundraisers at St Luke’s Hospice recently.Five firms of solicitors across South Essex joined forces with the hospice, which serves Basildon, Billericay and Thurrock, to offer residents free legal advice and help to draw up their will in return for a donation to the hospice. And the generosity of solicitors and participants meant the hospice is celebrating a windfall of around £10,000 – £2,000 more than from a similar event last year.More than 70 families responded to the opportunity presented by Make a Will Fortnight at the beginning of the month and Ed Pearce, Legacy and In Memory Coordinator for St Luke’s, said: “Those who took advantage of this chance to protect their families’ future said how it had spurred them on to do something they had kept meaning to do but just never got around to. We are so grateful to the solicitors who gave their services free of charge. Solicitors who took part were Birkett Long, Basildon; Palmers, Basildon; Fisher Jones Greenwood Solicitors, Billericay; Hattens, Grays, and Rainer Hughes, Shenfield.Anyone wanting more information about the event, which will be repeated next year, can contact Ed on 01268 524973 or email
